Genetically Modified Organisms in the food supply??

How do you feel about GMOs being introduced into the food supply without your knowledge or consent? Do you feel that the US Government should warn/inform us of when this is happening an in what products GMOs occur?? Is it enough for some products to be labels organic OR should all food products be required to be labeled as containing GMOs?

Interesting thought. I feel it should be labeled however given the amount of altered food that has been consumed and is currently stocking the shelves through out the Continent it may be simpler to mark that which hasn’t had anything changed in it’s make up. I am of the understanding that GMO food staples have allowed for the end to famine in several densely populated areas of South Asia. Regardless of the potential for unknown effects upon humans it is certain that without these advances those that lived in that era of famine would be long since departed. There should be a list formed of what has been altered and what hasn’t. This list should be posted and copies keep on display in supermarkets or wherever foodstuffs are available. That would be an effective and fair way of addressing this issue in my opinion. The handbooks that are issued to factories regarding hazardous chemicals would make an excellent template to fashion after. You have a good idea here, perhaps worthy of scrutiny by those that are responsible for such affairs. Suddenly I have a desire to eat some of those giant strawberries, those things are the size of apples for goodness sakes! I wonder if they’ve been altered too?

  1. consumer watchdog organizations should inform the public. they would do a far better job than the FDA.

having said that, GMOs are unlikely to be of any danger whatsoever and are probably a wonderful way to produce food with greater yields and less pollution.

  2. We’ve been genetically modifying food stuffs for centuries. We could not possibly produce the amount, and variety, that we do, with out doing so.

Please don’t be a liberal conspiracy nut.

  4. I think you are correct, the FDA should force labeling of GMO’s. Not that I think they present any real danger to our health right now, but I think it opens the door for the food industry to stray towards more unnatural items such as food additives and pesticides. The food industry will compromise our health for greater yield and profits, perhaps unknowingly.

Ultimately it will be up to the consumer to demand higher quality goods to force change in the food industry. Right now the majority of Americans could care less about what they put into their mouths.
