what dangers does genetically modified organisms pose to life on earth?

Well look at the size of the Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico where the Mississippi dumps into it. Nothing lives for thousands of square miles. High Fructose Corn Syrup cause’s Diabetes! Jus tmark the time it was added to the market and just how few years until the explosion of Fat people in America. Too wired on that crap to move.

What are dangers of genetically modified foods to humans, animals and the environment?

Don’t answer if you can’t provide scientific evidence.

There are none! No one has ever died, or even gotten sick as a result of GMOs and, personaly, I think your question is slighlty loaded as there ARE benefits to GM crops. By planting corn that is resitant to corn bore and corn rootworm, you greatly decrease the need for pesticides. And I’m warning you… I’m about to get on my soapbox….I hope the previous answerer got a good grade on her paper in her humanities class, because if she takes a crop science class she’ll need to re-write it… It doesn’t hold water! I just did a quick search on both glyphosate and Round-up (Monsanto’s tradename for glyphosate) and both pose very little risk to human health. In fact, in cases of intentional ingestion (suicide) it is fatal only 10% of the time (as compared to 80% for paraquat) and I’m just guessing, but I would assume if someone is trying to end their life, they aren’t going to dilute it down to the application rate… so keep that in mind! Also…. why on earth would a farmer use MORE of a product then is necessary? Farmers operate on a very small profit margin, and making decisions like that won’t keep them in business very long! I will grant that today’s crop plants don’t have much genetic diversity, but adding 1-3 genes in a GMO crop has no effect in decreasing diversity. The are no different then any other plant. Yet, I think, most importantly, consider the impact on rural life! Most farmers have a job off the farm and the added flexibilty of GM crops (having a greater time frame for application… ie- glyphosate can be applied after the corn has emerged) allows people who want to farm the ability to continue to do so! To continue to work the land and raise their children the way they were raised. Please… before determining something is horrible after listening to a special interest group…. put yourself in somebody else’s muddy boots.

What do you think of GMO? Should we use/consume them or not? Do you think they are good or bad for us?

Again it’s for a school work. Tell me what you think of GMOs.

I think it’s unnatural, unhealthy, disgusting… but inevitable. With the number of people we have to feed, GM products allow us to avoid hunger and revolution by filling people’s stomachs.

Why Do People Have a Colon Detox?

A detox or detoxification refers to the process of clearing toxins from the body. It can also mean neutralizing or transforming the toxins in your body into something less harmful. Toxins can enter your body through diet, drug use or exposure to something harmful in your environment. It’s possible to take in toxins through a single exposure or they may accumulate over a period of time.

Managing and reducing the level of toxins in your body can usually be accomplished with a combination of dietary and lifestyle changes. Basically, your personal detox solutions fall into two general areas: you can improve the elimination of toxins from your body and you can reduce your intake of toxins in the first place.

The world in which we live today differs a great deal from the natural world our bodies were designed to deal with. Not only is our diet filled with artificial ingredients and genetically modified vegetables and protein, even our air contains tiny particles of toxins that are harmful to our bodies. Our bodily systems work hard to eliminate these toxins, but may become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of dangerous materials it has to deal with. When this happens, disease results.

Under most normal conditions, your body is completely capable of detoxifying itself. In addition to your colon, your body uses a variety of organs like your liver, kidney, lungs and skin to effectively and efficiently remove poisons and waste materials. But living in today’s world has placed an overload on your system. Some of this overload we bring upon ourselves by the things we eat or don’t eat. When toxins aren’t eliminated on schedule, they began to accumulate.

Even if your diet is perfect and your lifestyle is completely healthy, you can’t avoid being exposed to toxins in your environment. Sometimes it’s just not possible to continue our daily lives and completely avoid unhealthy situations at the same time. If our body can’t keep up with the daily dose of toxins, then it’s up to us to help our bodily systems cope. A great way to start is with a colon detox.

The colon is the final component of our body’s natural waste elimination system. Actually, that’s why it’s best to start with a colon detox. If you don’t do a colon detox first and then attempt to detoxify other waste eliminating organs like your liver or kidneys, then the toxins released from those organs could end up simply being reabsorbed into your bloodstream.

The number of bowel movements that a particular person has is at least partially based on their own personal physical makeup. The normal frequency of bowel movements can range from three times a day to a few times a week. However, having at least one bowel movement per day is best for the regular elimination of toxins.

If your colon is working sluggishly or you have some other sort of chronic colon dysfunction, this can add to the toxicity of your body. If waste matter is moving very slowly through your colon or begins to build up along the walls of your colon, toxins in the waste matter that should be eliminated are reabsorbed into your bloodstream instead.

Another excellent reason to have a colon detox involves the removal of mucoid plaque. When your colon is stressed, as it is when we eat the wrong things and don’t care for our body in the way that we should, it produces mucus to protect itself. Over time, this mucus begins to bind with unhealthy foods and builds up on the walls of your colon. Some believe that it will form something called mucoid plaque, although medical support for this idea is mixed.

The removal of toxins and waste can be a huge challenge for your body, especially in today’s world. We are taking in more toxins than ever before and our bodies simply weren’t designed to handle this level of toxicity. That’s why performing a colon detox on a regular basis, combined with a shift away from engineered and processed foods filled with artificial ingredients, is so beneficial to our well-being. A colon detox gives your body a natural boost and enables it to do what it was designed to do.

Are Genetically Modified Organisms the modern equivalent of?

the "Tower of Babel"?

Everyone is so worried about chemical pollution but genetic pollution (inserting genetically modified organisms into the wild) has a far greater potential for harm. Chemical pollution dissipates over time…genetic pollution replicates over time.

So here we are playing God with nature. Indeed many believe we are God…can you say Babylon?
For more info watch this…

I found this little quote today from Prince Phillip.

On June 7, 2000, The Guardian quoted the Duke of Edinburgh as saying: "Do not let us forget we have been genetically modifying animals and plants ever since we began selective breeding." (He was not referring to animals or plants here btw. You can figure out just what species he was referring to. Eugenics is one of his favourite things.)

Until I read your question, I had never heard of genetic pollution so I have just done a quick study of the situation. This seems to me, from the wee bit I have read so far, and I do admit just a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, to be on a level with the threat of depleted uranium. It is irreversible and tampers with nature on a genetic level.

"Tens of thousands of novel transgenic bacteria, viruses, plants and animals could be released into the Earth’s ecosystems for commercial tasks ranging from “bio-remediation” to the production of alternative fuels. Some of those releases, however, could wreak havoc with the planet’s biosphere, spreading destabilizing and even deadly genetic pollution across the world." – Jeremy Rifin, The Biotech Century, 1998]

"I think that it is likely that we will be plagued by genetic pollution, and that we will look back and see chemical and nuclear pollution as not as significant — even though one brought us global warming and the other waste that we cannot deal with for thousands of years." – [New Scientist, Oct. 1998]

That means, forever changed.

Your question about God and nature. Is this not the cause of so many schisms between science and the catholic church? As science recreates or explains what was once impossible, the power of religion diminishes. They are losing their miracles.

I cannot tie in your Tower of Babel theory, but I certainly can foresee many horrific results of playing in this manner. The ramifications are unimaginable! Whenever man messes with the environment he does just that.. messes with it. We see this with species introduced into parts of the world where they have no known enemies or "checks" and problems begin. This would make all previous difficulties fade into obscurity!

"Genetic pollution" and collateral damage from GE field crops already have begun to wreak environmental havoc. Wind, rain, birds, bees, and insect pollinators have begun carrying genetically-altered pollen into adjoining fields, polluting the DNA of crops of organic and non-GE farmers. An organic farm in Texas has been contaminated with genetic drift from GE crops on a nearby farm and EU regulators are considering setting an "allowable limit" for genetic contamination of non-GE foods, because they don’t believe genetic pollution can be controlled. Because they are alive, gene-altered crops are inherently more unpredictable than chemical pollutants–they can reproduce, migrate, and mutate. Once released, it is virtually impossible to recall genetically engineered organisms back to the laboratory or the field."

This gets worse and worser and worsest with every link I find on this topic. It truly makes one wonder what these foods would do to those who consume it over time.
Yanno, it just makes no sense to me. Absolutely vain, arrogant and ultimately stupid as the WWF. Is that because I possess a modicum of common cents…. er sense?

What are genetically modified foods and how is it used, and what is it used for?

Can you please answer this question it will be a big help.
Thank-you

GMO’s are plants (or animals none of those yet) that have had genetic material added to them. so what we have now is BT corn, BT soybeans, and the roundup ready series of crops.
BT is named from bacillus family of bacteria which produce a natural insecticide so you dont have to spray for insects cutting down the need for poisons in the ground and air. and the roundup ready series is round up resistant so it is resistant to herbicides. so you can plant it and spray once for weeds and then you dont have to worry about it as round up is persistant in the soil. so there is less herbicide in the air and ground.
currently the FDA has not released them into the human food supply however they are being used to feed animals. so technically you are eating them but it is technically biologically filter and i am not sure how wide spread the use is.
there is also a rice variety called golden rice. if your diet consists mainly of rice as in most asian countries you do not get enough vitamin E which can lead to blidness. so they added a gene to produce vitamin E it is not widely adopted. and zaire turned away a ship full of corn from the US because it contained GMO corn. so its still a vary hot issue and deserves some attention still.

What GMO’s are; the benefits of GMOs and the risks?

GMO = genetically modified organisms. These are organisms whose genetic material has been modified using techniques known as recombinant DNA technology, a method in which DNA from different sources are combined in vitro into one molecule and then transfered to one organism, allowing the expression of certain desirable traits in that organism. Foods produced using these methods are sometimes known as "Frankenfood" by it’s opponents.

I’m assuming you mean GMOs used in food products such as soybeans, corn, potatoes etc. These are known as transgenic plants. The benefits claimed are longer shelf life, higher yields, better resistance to diseases, pests and extreme environmental conditions as well as increased nutritional values to name a few.

Some risks are indicated in studies such as one released in 2007 in which a difference in kidney size and blood composition was noted in rats fed with a strain of GM corn, suggesting that human health might be affected by eating GM food. This study is still a subject of controversy as is the study in which rats fed GM potatoes were found to have severe damage to their immune systems and stunted growth. Some allergens have been noted to have been transfered to genetically engineered foods, most notably allergens from Brazil nuts transfered into genetically engineered soybeans. Many opponents of GMOs state the limitations of modern science to fully understand the possible negative consequences of this type of genetic manipulation as an essential consideration in evaluating the use of GMOs in food.

Can organic food contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs)?

Or does "organic" also mean "not genetically modified" by default?

No. Any food sporting the USDA organic seal (or other USDA accredited organic seal) cannot have GMO’s as this would be in violation of the USDA NOP regulations which organic farms must follow to maintain their organic status. You can read the regulations (all 1500+ pages) at http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop

Organic does indeed mean "not genetically modified by default"

Any farm or company selling conventional food as organic faces a $5000 fine for each offense (sale) and the USDA does indeed enforce the organic rules so, for the most part, organic is organic.

What are genetically modified foods and how are they produced and transported?

by medical means they make food more healthy for us…….
they do it by changing the gen structure of the food……

Where can I find a list of (GMO) Genetically modified foods approved for human consumption country by country?

Hm, I think you will not find it since "foods" is not an easy description for a list. The WHO will give you a lot of information. See the source.

Best wishes, Wil
